Just Like Us! Crocs, written by Bridget Heos, reviewed by Caroline Rabideau

Summary: Just Like Us! Crocs is filled with really amazing facts about crocodiles. Combining real-life pictures with cartoon drawings of crocodiles, each page fills your imagination with what it might be like to live the life of a crocodile. Then, just as you were filled with amazement, the text spins, bringing it back to the comparison between humans and crocodiles, showing the reader both the similarities and differences in our everyday lives. The facts are very cool, the pictures and jokes are hilarious, and I love any combination of learning and fun, especially in a book.

Straight Talk for Librarians: I highly recommend this book for any elementary or middle school library. I think the text is challenging enough that a middle school student would be challenged by bigger words, but the facts and jokes would keep them engaged. I believe older
elementary school students would be captivated by the pictures, encouraging them to read through the text. I believe this book could inspire an interest which might bloom into checking out more books on the topic. The illustrations do a fantastic job of showing the reader why these facts might be important, or making the reader understand how the crocodile might feel in their situation. Top top everything off, the wonderful and comical illustrations and amazing facts are coupled with hilarious jokes all throughout the text. Bridget Heos has nailed exactly how to get my students involved in a book, turning from page to page. I'm so excited to show these to my students.
